Solar LED Brings Safety to Remote Communities

February 4, 2014

It’s hard to believe but there are still some rural areas in the U.S. that lack a dependable source of electricity including exterior lighting. Understandably, the lack of lighting is a safety and security concern for cities and along roadways.
Commercial solar LED lighting systems are a great alternative to traditional electricity sources, especially in rural and remote communities. The LED lighting systems have proven to be less expensive to install than grid-connecting lighting, mostly because there is no need to string wires and bring power to the site.
Using solar energy means little or no cost to the county or residents since it uses the sun to power electricity. LED and solar have both come a long way.
“Years ago [LED] could light facilities but they didn’t give enough lighting to meet industry standards. Today, we meet illumination standards for most applications and the LED lighting performance is far superior,” said Matt Ellenberger, a specialist in solar outdoor commercial lighting.
