How Cities Strive Toward Sustainability and Energy Management
There are cities all over the world who are making sustainability and energy management models. In an article from Energy Manager Today, journalist Samantha Alexander examines these cities that are making a difference.
Globally, Sweden has emerged as a sustainability leader, largely because of the country’s renewable energy sources and low carbon emissions.
On a small scale, the city of Masdar, in the city of Abu Dhabi, will finish construction in 2016, and is expected to be the world’s first completely sustainable community. The city sits on a 23-foot-tall concrete base to maximize exposure to cooling winds, and a fleet of computer-driven electric cars will navigate tunnels to move people around the city.
Another city on the outskirts of Vienna will take shape on 595 acres of a former airfield in the waterside. This “smart city” will integrate intelligent traffic solutions, green building, water management, and smart grid infrastructure.
