The Missouri Public Service Commission approved one of the most aggressive energy efficiency plans in the state.
Under the plan, Ameren, which serves 1.2 million electric and 127,000 natural gas customers in eastern and central Missouri, will invest $147 million over three years. The company will fund several programs that seek to reduce electricity use by 800 million megawatt-hours.
The company will gear those programs toward residential and business customers. More than likely the company will promote rebates and incentives on energy-efficient appliances, HVAC systems, Energy Star homes, and sustainable lighting.
Ameren expects that over the next 20 years, their investment in the programs will result in about $500 million in customer benefits.
Now is a great time for businesses to seek out rebates and incentives, especially when the common T12 technology is obsolete. Rebates and incentives are a great benefit to retrofitting inefficient technology, especially when the return on investment may be just 12-24 months.
